My February Stitch Fix box has arrived! It’s been a wonderful pick me up since I’m getting over a terrible cold (not an ideal way to spend Valentine’s day).
If you haven’t heard of stitch fix, it’s a personal stylist box that gets shipped to you ever 2-3 weeks, once a month, once every 2 months, however often you want! You create an account, fill out a style profile, link them to your Pinterest board (this is pretty key to getting a good box!) and get a box with 5 items, then you keep what you want and send the rest back. There’s a $20 stylist fee that gets taken off your total if you buy something, and if you buy all 5 you get 25% off! Plus, you get a little note from your stylist with advice on stylings.
I’ve been using it for a year and a half, because I am the world’s worst dresser/shopper and it’s really made a difference. Especially after a stylist change a few months back, my wardrobe has been changed so dramatically and I’ve stopped dressing like a complete slob. Plus, it’s basically stress free since I don’t have to leave home.
For my February fix I asked for a dress and colored jeans (like my pink level 99 ones). I have an event at the end of the month that’s cocktail attire and while I’ve gotten an appropriate dress in a past box I was really excited to see what Margaret would pull for me.
Unfortunately Margaret was on vacation, but the lovely Sara styled me instead. Here’s what she sent over:
Bay to Baubles Colette Mini-Fringe Hoop Earrings
I was pretty excited to see I got some earrings. I don’t have any special event earrings (I have a pair of pearl studs that I wear constantly, but nothing dangly and special). These were cute but the fringe didn’t feel delicate enough for me and was a little clunky for my taste (I’m really minimal in my jewelry choices). The hoops themselves kind of felt a little cheap too. They’re cute they’re just not my style.
Verdict: Returned ($28)
Laila Jayde Cindy Slub Knit Raglan Top
I love this color. I love that the material is kind of heathered. It really adds some depth. The shoulders also have a seam outline of a shoulder patch. The details on this are really cute!
I just don’t think it’s the most flattering shirt on me. The swoop hem line and length are not the most flattering on me and make me look a little extra hippy and heavier. The extra raglan seaming around the armpit is also not my favorite and for me it felt a little too casual. The material felt a little nightshirty to me. So, just not the right cut for me.
Verdict: Returned ($64)
41Hawthorn Lizzy Colorblock Striped Sweater
I have had this on my pinterest board for a bit so I was really excited to see that Sara sent it over. It’s so soft. I can’t even describe how soft. And everyone should know I’m a sucker for anything soft. So when I put this on, I immediately tore off the tags and knew it was a keeper. I paired it with some Kut from the Kloth printed pants that I bought from someone else’s fix and booties to dress up the casualness of the sweater. I love it!
Verdict: Kept ($68)
Kut from the Kloth Siena Cropped Pant
Sara suggested that I pair the sweater with these pants, which she sent over because of my color request. These pants are cotton, so they’re nice and breath-y and cropped, which is very in right now. They also fit my butt pretty well:
I feel they don’t work on me though. The way the pockets lay make me look a little hippier and I have the same problem with the length as the boyfriend jeans from last fix. They make my legs look shorter, and my shorty short legs don’t need help in that department. The blue was also just a little too primary blue for me.
Verdict: Returned ($58)
London Times Anaisey Jersey Dress
Ok, we need to have a conversation about this dress. Because I both hate it and love it. I find it both super cute and super hideous. I can’t decide. The shape and cut are nice… I’m kind of thrown off by how conservative the neckline and the sleeves are but it still looks nice and flattering.
The print though, is loud and bold.
But it’s loud and bold in a kind of flattering way. Sara recommended pairing it with my faux leather jacket from a previous fix, and that plus some booties tone the print down and make it all look kind of cool:
Even just using my hair to block out the neckline makes it look less stuffy and better
And pairing it with this jacket from a previous fix also helps…
So basically I was so torn. it’s cute. But I would look at it and hate it.. .and then I would look at it and love it… then hate it then love it then hate it etc. And I just can’t justify keeping something that I may possibly hate. So after much much deliberation and trying it on with different things, this dress went back. Also, I have marked on my profile not to send me Paisley prints so I’m not sure how this ended up in there, but hey it got me thinking.
Verdict: Returned ($68)
What do you guys think? Should I have kept that paisley dress? Am I crazy for even considering it? Let me know what you would have kept!
